What does it mean to be limitless?

This question has been stuck in my head for the past eight years. As a documentary filmmaker, I have had the pleasure to meet all kinds of people and study how they move, how they think, and why they do what they do. What I’ve found is that though everyone’s story may be different, there were three commonalities however, that stayed the same. I call them, the three pillars to living limitlessly: Mindset, Action, and Belief.

One’s mindset must be prepared and fully focused to be able to take action and do the work that is necessary to achieve their goals. The driving force is their belief that they can accomplish their end goals, despite the limitations that stand in their way. Though that is a simple way of explaining it, the concept of living limitless is far more layered, and calls for real dedication to do the work necessary to live a limitless life. However, before we can get to the understanding of the three pillars, we first must understand what the word limitless means.

According to the dictionary, limitless is defined as: without end, limit, or boundary. To be limitless means there are countless possibilities and no limit to what we can achieve in life if we dare to defy the odds and break barriers. Though life may throw all kinds of limitations at us, it is up to us to decide if we are going to let these limitations stop us from achieving what God has purposed us to achieve in this life. To defy odds and break barriers, one must be willing to take risk and step out of their comfort zone. One must be willing to face all the anxieties, setbacks, fears, limitations, and more knowing that they could fail but being willing to try anyways. Living a limitless life is not for the faint of heart. Some days you will have uncertainties, face rejections, and feel like everything you’re doing is a failure. However, those who chose to rise to the moment, to take the risk, will reap the reward.

There is a freedom to living limitlessly. However, since nothing in life is free, there is a cost. The question is, are you willing to pay that cost? If so continue reading, if not it’s okay. When you’re ready come back.

There are three main components one must master to live a life with no bounds, no limits, or no fears. These three pillars as I call them, are the keys to having success and achieving the life you truly desire and not the life society says you are limited to living.

Pillar I. Mindset

Contrary to what we may think, our minds are fragile and susceptible to the wrong data. If you can control the mind of a human, you can control the human. Just look at cults and their leaders. Cults don’t happen overnight. It’s a constant attack on the human psyche, breaking a person down until they accept the cults beliefs as their own. Our minds are important to everything we do. That is why it is so imperative that we do everything we can to protect it. From being aware of the information we take in and how it impacts our well-being, to making sure that our minds are clear of any past traumas that can alter our reality and cause us to make poor choices out of hurt instead of a sound mind. Which means dealing with our past and not accepting our traumas as a way of life. The more solid our mindset is, the harder it is for distractions to hinder our growth and the more equipped we are to achieving the successes we desire. Look at any of the greats out there from all walks of life. They all had a mindset that was focused, disciplined, and aware of how to use their failures as a jumping board to their successes. The number one key to living limitlessly starts with having the right mindset to pursue your goals or purpose. Without it, you will never go further than the door.

Pillar II. Action

It’s nothing to have the right mindset but no wherewithal to take action to do something about your goals and purpose. There’s a famous scripture that says, “faith without works is dead” (James 2:26). Truth is, no one became successful by daydreaming about their lives and hoping for something magical to happen. Any successful person had to take a first step. Whether it was Oprah becoming one of the most successful talk show hosts, or Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone breaking world record after world record as an elite track star, each one of these women started by taking action towards their goal. Right now, you may want to achieve something great but are too busy comparing yourself to other successful people. Here’s a secret, before they were successful, they had to take a first step. That first step is mired in fear, risk, and discomfort. However, the one who dares to take it, will open themselves up to opportunities and endless possibilities. But you must be willing to do the work necessary to achieve the goals you desire. Nothing great comes easy. Which means you must be willing to put in long hours, do grunt work, and face rejection day after day until you achieve your goal.

Pillar III. Belief

To have the right mindset to go after a limitless life and be willing to take action to do so, one must have the belief that they can achieve such a feat to begin with. Belief is the solid foundation of any successful person. Without it, you’d be like a car with no engine. Sure, you have the parts but where are you going to go if you can’t start the car? Belief is the notion that whatever it is you are trying to achieve, not only is it possible, but you are the one capable of achieving it. Belief is the driving force that pushes you on the days you want to give up. It motivates you when nothing else will. Most of all, belief can turn every negative thought, rejection, or doubt into a force that pushes you to work harder, to push yourself past your own limiting beliefs, to become the best version of yourself. To have faith of a mustard seed one could move mountains. Imagine what you could do in your own life if you simply just believed?
